The Office of Communications and Marketing disseminates information about Smith College to the news media, which includes print and broadcast media with local, regional, national, and international audiences. 

From time to time, employees may be contacted by members of the media seeking information about the college, its programs, employees, or activities. To ensure that accurate and consistent information is provided, the college designates specific individuals to respond to media inquiries.

Employees who receive inquiries from members of the media should not provide comments, statements, or information on behalf of the college unless they have been specifically authorized to do so. Instead, all media inquiries should be promptly directed to the senior director of media relations and strategic communications, who is responsible for coordinating the college’s responses to media requests.

This policy applies to inquiries received by phone, email, social media, or in person. Employees may speak to the media in their personal capacity; however, they should make clear that they are not speaking on behalf of the college unless authorized.
