Programs & Workshops
Outreach is an important tool in community relations for Smith College Campus Safety. We offer programs and workshops designed to foster community involvement, cooperation and communication. If you are looking for something special, we will design a program around your needs. Programs and workshops can be tailored to the needs of your residence, department, organization or the wider community.
Our department can offer a presentation to faculty, staff, students and community members on what to do during an active threat. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A on strategies for keeping you safe.
A presentation can be scheduled at your convenience and conducted at your location. Please feel free to contact our department for scheduling.
This presentation describes the effects of alcohol and drug use. The workshop helps to explain the laws and the consequences of abusing them.
Pamphlets and resources are also available for programs outside of the campus for help with substance abuse.
Fatal Vision Goggles are used as part of the workshop to enhance the understanding and feelings of being under the influence.
The campus safety department can provide information regarding bicycle equipment, safety equipment, locking devices and the laws pertaining to bicyclists. Look on the Policies & Services webpage to learn more about bicycle safety.
The R.A.D. System of Self Defense offers programs for women, children and seniors. These offerings provide a truly holistic approach to self-defense education, supporting the necessity of continuous learning in order to provide realistic options for each population as they go through life. Each of these programs includes educational components including lectures, discussion and physical resistive strategies.
All of our programs are facilitated by certified R.A.D. instructors who are supported by a network of dedicated professionals who honor one another through our unique lifetime return and practice Policy.
Smith College Campus Safety offers this class to all students, staff and faculty. Our instructors have a long history of teaching R.A.D. as well as other training, such as JANE JITSU and PLAY IT SAFE.
Please contact our department to receive more details about setting up classes for your dorm, office or community. You can also contact Irma Lopez-Gottlieb at email@example.com or 413-585-2490.
Smith College Campus Safety will come to the residence houses and custom tailor discussions on various topics based on specific needs and requests.
- Social gatherings where members of the area can ask questions and build a working relationship with the department.
- A question session regarding safety and how Smith students can do their part in keeping residences and neighbors safe.
Please contact our department to facilitate a house talk in your area. We are happy to discuss other ideas.
This basic safety workshop is based on crime prevention and safety awareness and is offered as a one-hour personal safety program to educate and share vital information about safety in and outside of the community. The S.A.F.E. program is an introduction to a more advanced self-defense training program, such as the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) program.
