Residence life is part of Smith’s co-curricular environment that enhances and enriches the academic program. Students come from varied backgrounds, and the house community provides a supportive, social environment for them to learn about and appreciate one another’s experiences and differences.

Houses Close for Winter Break on Thursday, December 22 at 10am
Winter Break is scheduled for Thursday, December 22 until Tuesday, January 3. All houses, including the Friedman Apartments, will close on December 22 at 10 a.m. and will reopen on January 3 at 1 p.m. Students who will be on leave for Spring 2023 (study abroad/away or personal leave) and January graduates must completely vacate your fall housing assignment by 10 a.m. on December 22.
Winter Break Housing
Winter Break housing will be available in Cutter and Ziskind Houses for international students and domestic students with independent status. Additional information regarding Winter Break housing will be emailed to all eligible students on November 28. All Winter Break housing requests must be received by Wednesday, December 7.
Trunk Room Storage
All house trunk rooms closed Monday, September 19 for the start of the fall semester. If you require access to your house trunk room, please contact your house residence life staff or neighborhood Area Director to schedule an appointment. Students who are planning to study away or take personal leave for Spring 2023 must contact your house residence life staff at least 24 hours in advance to store your items at the end of the fall term. Trunk room access will not be available during Winter Break. Students who require access to JMG trunk room can view Fall JMG Storage Hours on the Residence Life website. If you need to seek off campus storage options. Smith College's preferred vendor for storage is Boomerang Storage.
Petition to Live Off-Campus
Students interested in off-campus housing for the Spring 2023 semester must apply via the Petition to Live Off-Campus, which will be available via Residence life Self-Service on November 15. Juniors and Seniors will be given priority, although all class years will be considered. The application deadline is December 1.
