Sponsored Research is defined as all research and programs supported by external funding and received by Smith College on behalf of members of the college community, and for which the college is accountable. This does not include gifts or bequests to the college, student financial aid, or support for student projects unless the college is required to submit an application on a student's behalf and administer the award(s).

There are two grant-focused search engines available to the Smith community through the libraries: GrantForward and Pivot Proquest. You may also contact the Grants and Sponsored Research team. This team assists faculty in identifying potential funding sources, both public and private, and, when requested, will review draft grant proposals and provide substantive editorial guidance.

Contact the Grants and Sponsored Research team for assistance in applying for external grants. All grant proposals must be reviewed by the college prior to submission. The grants team will assist in this process. Please allow at least one week for this review.

Contact the Grants and Sponsored Research team for post-award services from grant fund setup through closeout. Specifically, the Assistant Director of Grants Administration works with Principal Investigators and administrative support staff to provide updates on grant funds, financial reporting, effort reporting, guidance on award terms and conditions, compliance, and oversight.
