Vision Statement

As engaged and trusted stewards of Smith College’s key resources, Finance, Administration & Campus Services enables and advances the mission of the college. We apply professional expertise, inclusive partnership, coordinated systems thinking, and a culture of service excellence to sustain daily operations and deliver innovative, collaborative, and sustainable solutions that strengthen Smith today and transform it for the future.

Offices

Campus Services, Operations, and Maintenance (CSOM) comprises the teams responsible for the essential services that shape daily life at Smith. CSOM staff work to ensure that the college’s physical environment is safe, welcoming, and thoughtfully cared for. With expertise and commitment, the teams help make Smith a place where the community can do its best work and feel at home.

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) leads the college’s efforts to anticipate, prepare for, and reduce risks that could affect our people, operations, and mission. The team includes Environmental Health and Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and partners closely with the Five College Office of Risk Management to support a safe and resilient campus. Their work includes helping assess and manage institutional risks across departments; promoting a strong culture of health, safety, and regulatory compliance; providing training and guidance for students, faculty, and staff; and coordinating plans to strengthen Smith’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies. Through thoughtful planning, education, and partnership, ERM helps ensure the college remains secure, healthy, and well-prepared for the unexpected.

The Finance Office is a collaborative unit dedicated to stewarding the resources that sustain Smith’s mission. The budget team partners closely with departments across the college to develop, implement, and manage budgets that align resources with institutional priorities, offering thoughtful analysis, reporting, and clear guidance to support immediate needs and long-term planning. The accounting and financial operations teams account for, report on, and safeguard the college’s financial assets, overseeing general accounting; tax and financial reporting; and endowment, investment, gift, and fixed-asset accounting. The procure-to-pay team engages closely with the Smith community to manage the buying of goods and services, onboarding suppliers, and processing invoices and ad-hoc payments. The payroll and student employment team ensures that all employees are paid accurately, timely, and efficiently, as well as managing the student worker hiring process. Collectively, these teams ensure that financial operations are carried out accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with policy, providing dependable financial services and support to the entire Smith community.

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides the digital infrastructure, tools, and expertise that support teaching, learning, research, and daily operations across Smith College. ITS works closely with students, faculty, and staff to ensure technology is reliable, secure, and accessible, helping the community accomplish its work effectively. From OneCard access to software support and classroom technologies, ITS delivers resources and services integral to the academic and operational experience. Through expertise, thoughtful planning, collaboration, and service, ITS ensures that Smith’s technology environments advance the college’s mission today and prepare it for the opportunities of tomorrow.

Through integrated planning, design, and project delivery, Sustainable Capital Programs guides the shaping of the Smith campus—empowering teaching, learning, and discovery while advancing the college’s vision for institutional sustainability. The team includes Campus Planning, Capital Projects, Sustainability, and CEEDS, and oversees high-impact projects ranging from the new Campus Use Plan (CUP) to major renovations, new construction, and transformative initiatives like the geothermal energy project.
