Gender-Based and Sexual Misconduct Policy

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”) and other relevant federal and state laws prohibit sex discrimination in education and employment. Gender-based and sexual misconduct that unreasonably interferes with the academic and professional experience of any member of the community on the college’s campus or in other settings related to the college’s educational offerings, programs, activities or employment is a form of sex discrimination that is prohibited by the college.

Under the college’s Gender-Based and Sexual Misconduct Policy, the college will promptly respond to complaints of gender-based and sexual misconduct and, where it is determined that such misconduct has occurred, will take measures to eliminate the conduct, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects, including imposing corrective action as appropriate.

Bias Response Team

Smith College is committed to maintaining a diverse community in an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation of differences. The purpose of Bias Response Team is to support the college’s efforts to maintain an inclusive campus climate by establishing a mechanism by which it responds to bias incidents. The Bias Response Team is not a mechanism for investigative or disciplinary action. However, it enables the College to track bias incidents, collect aggregate data, identify educational responses, and connect individuals affected by bias incidents with supportive resources.

Bias incidents covered under through this mechanism include an act of bigotry, harassment or intimidation based on age, color, creed, disability, gender identity, gender expression, race, religion, nation/ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation or veteran status committed on campus for which the respondent cannot be identified.

This includes, but is not limited to, slurs, graffiti, written messages, or images that harass or intimidate individuals or groups because of their membership in the above listed protected classes.

Smith College is an organization with strong values of responsibility and integrity. Professional conduct at the college is governed by the Code of Conduct. If you wish to place a confidential report of violations of college policies or standards, Smith encourages you to use the EthicsPoint service. Your report will be anonymous if you wish.

Instructions

  • Go to the EduRisk Learning site.
  • In the righthand box, click “Register Now” to create an account.
  • Fill in the Registration fields. For “Institution Code,” enter 0444-2267-XY12
  • On the next webpage UE presents, follow the instructions for confirming your account registration.
  • Quit your web browser, then restart it.
  • Go to the EduRisk Learning site.
  • In the lefthand box, log into EduRisk by entering your User Name and Password.
  • Click the “Learning Programs” tab.
  • Locate the “Workplace Harassment Prevention” program, then click its “Launch Learning Program” link.
  • Click the “Workplace Harassment Prevention 113” link.
  • Under the “Take a Course” tab, click the “Course” button. Then click the link for the first/ next module in your course.
