Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

September 14, 2005

As the Smith community steps forward to aid those affected by Hurricane Katrina, it has become clear that important benefits could be realized by having a single point person coordinate student, staff, faculty and college-wide efforts. Jennifer Walters, dean of religious life, has agreed to serve in that capacity. I encourage you to contact her with initiatives and resources. She will work with others on campus to help bring ideas to fruition.

Extending beyond the campus, there is, and will continue to be, a profound need for direct voluntary service in the Gulf States region. To enable members of our community to serve, the college will grant a paid leave of up to one week for employees who wish to participate in recognized relief efforts. Details of the policy are available at www.smith.edu/hr/whatsnew.php
