It’s the perfect excuse to get out of the office or leave your job behind for a couple hours in the middle of the week.

On Tuesday, May 31, all Smith staff and faculty are invited to eat delicious food, schmooze with fellow employees, move to the music and take part in some games at this year’s All-Employee Picnic from noon to 2 p.m. on Chapin Lawn. And to make it easy to attend, department offices will close that day from noon to 2 p.m. to allow staff to attend. (In case of rain, the event will still take place in Cutter-Ziskind dining room.)

Picture a summer picnic with a spread of burgers and dogs and all the fixings, an assortment of salads and fruit, plus side dishes and beverages, all supplied by Smith dining services. Don’t bother packing lunch on May 31—fill yourself at the All-Employee Picnic instead.

Tickets will not be issued for this event so no RSVP is required; just show up and show your Smith ID at the food buffet line.

As in years past, the All-Employee Picnic provides an opportunity to raise funds for a local charity. Therefore, voluntary contributions will be accepted for a donation to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, a Hadley-based agency that gathers, grows and stores food, then distributes it to those in need through food pantries, homeless shelters, childcare centers and other programs. The Food Bank of Western Mass. relies on donations to enable it to feed more than 100,000 people every year.

You can be part of the All-Employee Picnic. Volunteers are needed for tasks such as: checking IDs, helping with food/beverage and favors distribution, helping collect donations and other important jobs. The schedule will be divided into four half-hour shifts. To help with the picnic, contact Kathy San Antonio, ksananto@smith.edu, ext. 2162.

So, go ahead, take a couple hours off on May 31. See you there!
