Teaching & Learning Seminar

The Sherrerd Center for Teaching and Learning, in partnership with the ITS Learning, Research and Technology team, is facilitating a faculty cohort this fall with 12 participating faculty exploring Scaffolding Deep Learning in the Age of AI. This cohort is an evolution of two past AI faculty cohorts run by ITS and the Sherrerd Center’s past Teaching & Learning Seminar.

Faculty Workshops

To help guide faculty through the evolving AI landscape, ITS is offering AI Tools: Course Policies & Practice, a two-part workshop series blending practical tech literacy with liberal arts values. The series pairs a hands-on lab exploring tools like Google Gemini and data privacy with collaborative discussions on crafting course policies that protect academic integrity, preserve human connection, and align with individual teaching philosophies. AI for Students

Internship Program

This fall, Information Technology Services is launching a student-led AI internship program hiring a new cohort of student interns. Interns will provide AI training to students and coordinate a series of student-to-student outreach activities to engage students in conversations around AI and higher education. Academic Resources

Smith College Libraries have compiled a set of information—including books, articles, and online resources—about generative AI and large language models (LLMs) within the context of education.

Coming this fall: A new video for incoming students designed to provide guidance on AI in the classroom, focused on academic integrity and the importance of reading and understanding their course AI policies.

Additionally, a video will be available to describe Smith College’s holistic perspective to generative AI. It will serve as a practical guide to inform students of the varying course-specific syllabus policies, learn the importance of verifying AI outputs, and explain the need to prioritize a growth mindset and a unique intellectual voice.

Pedagogical Partnerships

Demonstrating Smith’s commitment to collaborative learning, the Sherrerd Center and Wurtele Center are developing a fall 2026 partnership program enabling faculty to thoughtfully work with student partners to address pressing teaching problems in the face of GenAI.
