Xan Burley

Biography

Xan Burley is a creator, performer and teacher whose work with her creative/life partner, Alex Springer, is inherently collaborative and best when experienced intimately. Their work has been presented in New York and elsewhere by many arts organizations and theaters, and they have received numerous artist residencies, space grants, fellowships, commissions and accolades, including the 2015 Emerging Artist Alumni Award from the University of Michigan. Of late, Burley is primarily interested in interdisciplinary projects in dance/movement and site-specific performance.
 
Burley has been on faculty at Gibney Dance, the University of Maryland, Purchase College, 92Y, USDAN and BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, among many others. Her teaching centers on compassionate movement practices that promote individual and communal growth.
 
Burley performed extensively with Doug Varone and Dancers from 2012–17 in addition to her performance work with artists such as Shannon Gillen, Shannon Hummel and Tami Stronach. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2007 with degrees in dance and English.
