Biography

Before coming to Smith College, Leslie R. Jaffe was associate professor of clinical pediatrics and director of the Adolescent Health Center of The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. There he developed his interest in promoting women's health and the interconnectedness of health with gender, culture, society, class and race. In addition to his clinical responsibilites at Smith, Jaffe teaches two courses: a large lecture class on women's medical issues and a small seminar on women's health in India. For the latter, Jaffe and his students travel to India during interterm to explore experientially what has been studied in the seminar. During the summer, Jaffe teaches a health course to high school girls as part of the Smith Summer Science and Engineering Program. He is also on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine in the department of adolescent medicine.
