Barry Spence is a Hellenist and comparatist who focuses on Homeric epic and fifth century tragedy, as well as in the reception of Classical literature by modernists like James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, Ezra Pound and Pier Paolo Pasolini. He is interested in theoretical approaches that address the distinctions between orality, writing, theatrical performance and cinema.
