Groundbreaking for New Neilson Library

On October 19, 2017, the Smith community came together to officially break ground on the Neilson Library renovation. Featured speakers included Provost and Dean of the Faculty Katherine Rowe, Board of Trustees Chair Deborah L. Duncan ’77 and designer Maya Lin. President Kathleen McCartney noted that the design of the new Neilson will be a work of art that, “respects history while looking to the future with fresh energy and creativity.” The new library will emphasize natural light, an energy-efficient design and flexible, collaborative work spaces. The project is expected to be completed for the fall semester of 2020.
