“At an environmental conference where my classmates and I presented our research, I met people doing interesting work and learned about potential career and grad school options.”
Since high school, I have had an interest in the environment. The Environmental Science and Policy Program at Smith helped me define and focus my interests through course work and outside opportunities. As part of the ENV 201/202 Researching Environmental Problems course, my classmates and I presented our research projects at the American Association of Geographers (AAG) conference. I met people doing interesting work in environmental and geographic fields and learned about potential career and grad school options. Before the conference, I had no idea what one could do with a geographic information system (GIS) programming background. It turns out, there’s a lot! I’ll be able to combine GIS with two areas in which I have particular interest—environmental justice and food security.
