We Did It!

January 9, 2017

Dear Students, Staff and Faculty, Alumnae and Parents,

I am writing with great pride to share the news of a milestone in Smith College history.

On December 31, we marked the culmination of our successful Women for the World campaign, which significantly surpassed its goal of $450 million.

Women for the World: The Campaign for Smith was the most ambitious fundraising effort the college has ever undertaken. Its success is fueling bold new ventures, including design-thinking initiatives, academic centers and a new student leadership program. Perhaps most consequentially, we raised close to $130 million for financial aid, funding that will benefit women of promise for generations to come.

Today, Smith is stronger thanks to the 37,000-plus donors who contributed to this effort to make the Smith experience the most powerful form of liberal arts education.

Later this spring, we will announce the final fundraising total. On March 4, we will show our gratitude with a community event on campus featuring actress, playwright and social commentator Anna Deavere Smith. We thank the Smith community around the world and look forward to celebrating together.

With gratitude,

Kathleen McCartney
President, Smith College
