Calm App Renewal

Letters to the Community
January 20, 2022

Dear students, staff and faculty,

Like many of you, I have been enjoying the Calm app, which allows users to access guided meditations, sleep stories, and more. As you may know, the college has provided the app free of charge to students, staff and faculty for the past two years. More than 1,500 of us downloaded the app and use it regularly as part of our wellness practice. From time to time, members of the community write to let me know the benefits they are receiving from using Calm. Last September, a student emailed me to say, “I just wanted to share that I really appreciate the Calm app subscription we have and hope that you will continue it. It’s the only thing that helps me sleep at night or be calm during the day.” Similarly, a staff member wrote to share, “The Calm subscription has enriched my life in ways I never expected.”

I am delighted to inform you that once again, the college will purchase a site license, allowing members of the community to use the app for free. If you have already signed up for the app, there is nothing more you need to do. If you would like to sign up for Calm, visit this link: and sign up with your Smith email address (or log in to an existing account). Validate your Smith email address. Once complete, you can download the Calm app and log into your account.

The Calm app is just one part of my wellness program. I am also enjoying long walks through campus, Yoga with Adriene (which is free on YouTube), FaceTime with friends and family, and my favorite guilty-pleasure television series. I hope you are finding ways to promote wellness in your daily lives.

If you think you might need professional mental health support, I encourage you to meet with someone to discuss how you are feeling. Students may contact Counseling Services at 413-585-2840, and benefited employees may contact ComPsych, our free, confidential counseling referral program, at 855-784-2056.

Take care and be well.

Warm regards,
