Mary Carey

Mary Carey has been an adjunct instructor in the Journalism Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst since 2002. She was a reporter, covering local and state politics and general news, as well as a movie reviewer, at the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton for 15 years. She has also written restaurant reviews for Masslive, taught English as a second language, evaluated movie scripts for a Los Angeles talent agency, directed communications for a local political campaign and worked for 10 years as the communications director for the Office of Northwestern District Attorney. She is a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, graduated from the University of Vermont and from the University of Texas at Austin with a Ph.D. in English.
