Florian White

Florian White specializes in modern and contemporary German literature and culture, German film, and language pedagogy. His research focuses on Berlin’s cultural history from the 1920s to the present, with particular interests in popular and subcultural cultures, urban space, and social interaction. His current research examines Berlin’s 1990s club culture in contemporary German-language literature.

A native of Germany’s Black Forest region, White earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Heidelberg University and his doctorate in German studies from the University of Connecticut, where he later directed the German Language and Culture Program. At Heidelberg, he also served as academic coordinator for the American Junior Year Summer Program. He has taught at UConn, Yale University, the Middlebury German Summer School, the University of Heidelberg, E.O. Smith High School, and the German School of Connecticut, as well as in Vellore, India.
