Martha Minow Will Offer Presidential Colloquium on ‘The Changing Ecosystem of News’

Martha Minow—a transformative scholar and a committed social justice advocate, especially on issues related to human rights—will deliver a Presidential Colloquium on “Freedom of the Press and the Changing Ecosystem of News” at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, in the Campus Center Carroll Room.

Presented in conjunction with Constitution Day, the event is open to the public at no charge.

A member of the Harvard Law School faculty since 1981 and dean of the law school from 2009 to 2017, Minow was recently named the 300th Anniversary University Professor at Harvard.

Throughout her career, Minow has combined scholarship with activism and a commitment to social justice. A member of the Independent International Commission on Kosovo, she helped launch Imagine Coexistence, a program of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, to promote peaceful development in post-conflict societies. Minow is vice chair of the Legal Services Corporation, an independent nonprofit established by Congress in 1974 to provide financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans. During the 2008 presidential campaign, then-Senator Barack Obama cited her as someone who had “changed [his] life.”

Minow’s books include Between Vengeance and Forgiveness: Facing History after Genocide and Mass Violence and Making All the Difference: Inclusion, Exclusion, and American Law.
