Farm to Institution New England publishes Smith student research about Land Grant Universities and Indigenous Nations in the Northeast
Published September 22, 2021
In the fall of 2020, Smith students Maeve McCurdy, Fee Pelz-Sharpe and Sofia Perrotto, partnered with Farm to Institution New England (FINE) through the Environmental Science and Policy 312 course, to investigate how land grant universities view their historic relationships with the Indigenous tribes whose land they occupy, and to answer the question “Can food create a bridge between Indigenous communities and land grant universities?” They explored whether these universities are changing their policies and actions, or considering returning the land through reparations, partnerships, or other pathways.
Read as a summary of their findings and their full report in the FINE blog.
