Faculty Members Approved for Tenure and Promotions

At their meeting earlier this month, the Smith College Board of Trustees approved tenure and promotion recommendations for seven faculty members.

Promoted to full professor from associate professor were Elisabeth Armstrong, study of women and gender; Judith Cardell, engineering and computer science; Nnamdi Pole, psychology; and Cristina Suarez, chemistry.

Promoted to associate professor with tenure from assistant professor were Denise McKahn, engineering; and Annemarie Gockel from the Smith College School for Social Work.

Promoted to senior lecturer was Maria Succi-Hempstead.

President McCartney congratulated the faculty members “for their well-deserved promotions.”

Smith, which is the largest women’s liberal arts college in the country, has a faculty of 285.
