In her lecture, art director Madie Hays will break down what it means to practice in the motion picture industry today, and the critical role the Art department plays in creating the visual world of stories on screen. From concept design, to drafting, to construction, Hays will detail past and current projects for HBO, Universal Studios, Netflix, AppleTV, and more.

Hays holds a Bachelor’s Degree in The History of Art and Architecture from Harvard University and a Master’s Degree in Scenic & Production Design for Theater, Film & TV from UCLA. Hays developed a robust history of working in and designing for theaters in Boston, New York, and Sydney before settling into her filmmaking career in Los Angeles. Hays is currently living and working in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she thoroughly enjoys hiking and camping with her husband and dog in between 60+ hour weeks working on the studio lot.
