Location:
Seelye Hall 201
For:
Open to the Public

A guest lecture by Tikhon Dzyadko, a prominent Russian journalist, television presenter, and media manager. Dzyadko previously worked at radio station Echo of Moscow, and he is currently Editor-in-Chief for independent news source TV Rain. Launched in 2010, TV rain drew repeated criticism from political authorities in Russia, and access to the channel was blocked in March 2022, in response to the network’s coverage of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. TV Rain re-launched in Latvia in July 2022, only to have its broadcast license revoked, and it has been based in the Netherlands since December 2022. Under Dzyadko’s editorial leadership, TV Rain continues to report on Russian culture and politics, including the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War.

His public lecture at Smith, “Exile and Survival: Russian Journalism Today,” relates to these continuing journalistic efforts. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Religion Department, the Journalism Concentration, and the Jacobson Center for Writing, Teaching, and Learning.
