Mode Change and COVID-19 Update
CIRT Update
Published January 31, 2022
Dear students, staff and faculty:
Campus Status
The campus is currently operating in ORANGE mode. For an explanation of the college’s color-coded operating modes, please visit Status & Operating Modes.
Over the past seven days, there have been thirty positive cases of COVID-19 reported through the on-campus campus screening program. Notably, our campus community positivity rate has been declining and is now 0.62%.
Mode Change
As of today, the campus is operating in orange mode. As a reminder, orange mode includes the following guidance:
- In-person classes have resumed.
- Staff whose jobs are already being performed remotely should continue to work remotely.
- Testing cadence for students and any employees on campus is now twice per week.
- Building access is restricted to members of the Smith community who are in the testing program and essential contractors.
For details, please see https://www.smith.edu/covid19/operating-modes.
Employees must test negative before returning to work
All employees (staff and faculty) are now required to receive a negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to their return to campus. The testing center is open for appointments on weekends through the end of January. Schedule a test at the Smith College testing center here. Employees may also schedule a PCR test in their home communities if travel to campus presents a hardship. Please note that at-home, rapid antigen tests are not acceptable for return-to-work clearance.
