Athletics

Unfortunately, the physical distancing required to reduce viral spread precludes our participation in varsity and club sports competition this fall. Alternative wellness opportunities will be developed for students, and athletic facilities will reopen in a phased plan to support community health.

Quick Facts

  • All varsity athletics are suspended for the fall semester.
  • Smith is in conversation with several NEWMAC colleges to explore whether our schools’ fall teams might be able to participate in limited league competition in early 2021.
  • All club sports and intramural athletics are suspended for the fall semester.
  • Athletic facilities are currently closed and will re-open in phases.
  • Outdoor athletic facilities, including the tennis courts and track, are open to any member of the Smith community—but remain closed to the public. Masks must be worn at all times and physical distancing must be practiced.

Overview

  • Athletics facilities and regular operations (workout equipment, lockers, etc.) at the gym will reopen in phases. The timing of each phase will be announced later this summer. In all phases, there will be limited locker room access.
    • Phase I: Students only, and by reservation.
    • Phase II: Students and employees approved for on-campus work, and by reservation.
  • Athletic facility access for community members, alums, retired employees and employees not approved for on-campus work is suspended for the fall semester.
