Ari Banias

Visiting Poet

Banias' Feb 14 event has been canceled. We hope to welcome him again in the future!

Ari Banias’ new collection—A Symmetry (W.W. Norton, 2021), winner of the 2022 Publishing Triangle Award for Trans & Gender Variant Literature—explores and unsettles the myth of a “benevolently ordered reality.” Author Gregg Bordowitz describes reading Banias’ work as “like feeling gravity. One walks unaware of the pull until the incline’s encounter.” Banias’ first collection, Anybody (W.W. Norton, 2016), was a finalist for the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the PEN Center USA Literary Award. Banias has been supported by the Headlands Center for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and Stanford University’s Wallace Stegner Fellowship program. He currently lives and teaches in Chicago.
