Through the Jandon Center’s curricular and co-curricular opportunities, students and faculty work on social change projects with community partners focused on complex urgent societal challenges. Pathways for engaged scholarship include activism for social justice, innovations in urban education, capacity building through service in partner nonprofits, supporting women and girls in STEM, and building community networks for refugee resettlement.
Candy works with faculty and students to link the CESC curriculum to the Jandon Center’s work with organizations and coalitions dedicated to enhancing equity and community health across the Pioneer Valley and beyond. Before coming to Smith in 2016, he worked on generating innovative locally driven economic development strategies and facilitating university and community partnerships in the United States, United Kingdon, and his native Ireland.
