Karl Ahrendsen

Postdoctoral Researcher in Physics

Biography

Karl arrived at the Smith Physics department in August of 2022. He is a postdoctoral researcher collaborating with Will Raven on precision spectroscopic measurements of energy transitions in light atoms.

He began his physics journey by obtaining a degree in physics (and also computer science) from Buena Vista University, located in Storm Lake, IA. He then continued his studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, investigating properties of electron spin through collisions with chiral molecules under the tutelage of Dr. Timothy Gay.

When he's not playing with fun toys in the physics lab, Karl enjoys spending time outdoors, taking pictures of almost anything and playing board games.
