Julio Alves is a linguist with academic interests in writing pedagogy, longform journalism, and language use and policy. He teaches courses in academic and creative writing. He has published in such journals as the American Anthropologist, Humor: International Journal of Humor Research, and Language in Society, and in such mainstream publications as The Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed.
