Cristina Valencia Mazzanti works at the intersections of early childhood, language diversity and qualitative research to study young children’s experiences with multilingualism and learning. In her research and teaching, Mazzanti develops multifaceted and disruptive understandings of the social construction of languages while arguing for aesthetical and multimodal manifestations of knowing in classrooms and research. Mazzanti teaches classes in the areas of early childhood and elementary education. Prior to joining Smith College, she completed her doctoral studies at the University of Georgia, where she taught in the context of a school-university partnership creating critical and collaborative teacher education spaces with children and teachers.
