Alex Springer

Biography

Alex Springer is a performer, choreographer, teacher and video artist. His creative projects take shape with his life partner, Xan Burley, and their collaborative choreography has been presented at the American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, Center for Performance Research, Danspace Project’s DraftWork, Movement Research at the Judson Church and the Brooklyn Arts Exchange, among others. 

He was a member of Doug Varone and Dancers from 2007–17 and has also performed for Alexandra Beller, Adriane Fang, Heidi Henderson, and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, among others. During his tenure with Varone, Springer acted as the rehearsal director and company manager, and he still serves as the company's archivist. Springer has re-staged Varone’s work at various universities and companies and has taught at the Gibney, Mark Morris Dance Center, the 92Y and the Bates Dance Festival. 

He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in dance and a minor in movement science.
