Student Response Systems

Student Response System (SRS) refers to an electronic means of individual or group student response during class. Participants use either a pre-set handheld device (a “clicker”), or respond via a website using their laptop or mobile device.

At Smith, we support Turning Point clickers. Some faculty are also using iClickers and Learning Catalytics (bring-your-own mobile devices only).

At Smith, instructors are:

• using clickers as a test for how well class materials are being understood,
• adjusting and modifying teaching based on their students' responses in real-time,
• using SRS for attaining consensus,
• finding that anonymous polling can help some students to be more responsive and active in a public setting and that student participation increases.

How to Get Started
Turning Point clickers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Email classhelp@smith.edu, as early as possible with the number of students in your course.
