Anna Gyorgy AC ’24

Scholarship Recipient

Why Smith?
There are so many reasons why I chose Smith: the beautiful campus, the open curriculum, the wonderful alums, and, perhaps most importantly, the supportive community of other Ada Comstock scholars.

What has financial aid meant to you?
The financial aid I receive from Smith makes it possible for me to fully commit myself to being a student, without having to stress about my finances, or hold a job outside of school to make ends meet. I spent the better part of the last decade working to pay off a debt to my previous college, which prevented me from being able to return to school. It is a dream come true to get to be fully engaged in campus life.

“To be a Smithie is to always strive for better, for yourself and for others.”

What does being a Smithie mean to you?
To be a Smithie is to always strive for better, for yourself and for others. It means being constantly curious, ever open to changing your mind and ever ready to accept a new challenge in the pursuit of knowledge.

What are you studying?
Philosophy and landscape studies. I’m excited by the academic potential of combining these studies to investigate how humans shape and are shaped by the built environment, and how cultural beliefs are reflected in the landscape.

What’s an accomplishment you’re proud of during your time at Smith?
I was recently offered a job as a peer writing tutor at the Jacobson Center, and I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to help other students improve their confidence in their writing. I am especially eager to help other nontraditional students overcome challenges they face in their academic work.

What is your favorite thing about Smith so far?
My fellow students. I am blown away by the kindness and curiosity of my classmates. I’ve never been a part of a community that cares so deeply for one another.

Why should donors support financial aid?
Please give so that Smith continues to be a vibrant and diverse intellectual community!
