An Invitation to Generating Justice, October 20, 2020

Dear students, staff and faculty,

I write to invite you to Generating Justice: A Forum for Addressing Recent and Ongoing Events, Showing up for Racial Justice and Strengthening Our Community on Wednesdays, October 28 and November 4, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Eastern. Please note that a Smith login is required in order to attend.

As we navigate this consequential election season and the uncertainty that surrounds it, Matilda Cantwell, director of religious and spiritual life, and a team of collaborators will offer this remote forum for the Smith community to share perspectives and hopes. Forum participants can also attend smaller groups or breakout rooms and use the chat to share joys and concerns and to support one another. The format is drawn from the Generating Justice forums held this past summer in response to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and so many other people of color.

While the pandemic robs us of our opportunity to come together physically, we can still share solace and build community to resist alienation and foster hope.

In addition to these two sessions of this forum, we hope to offer more in the future. This event is sponsored by the Office for Equity and Inclusion, the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and is supported by the Office of the Dean of the College.

Warmly,

Floyd Cheung
Vice President for Equity and Inclusion
Professor of English Language & Literature and American Studies
