Ways to View Commencement
Seating at Smith's Commencement ceremony is limited and is intended for the graduates and their guests. Members of the public who wish to view the ceremony are directed to do so via simulcast at John M. Greene Hall.
Simulcasts for alumnae will be provided at reunion brunches. Additionally, students, parents, alumnae and friends around the world are invited to view the event via live webcast.
If Commencement is held indoors due to inclement weather, tickets will be issued to graduates for their families.
Commencement will be held Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. The tentative schedule below is designed to assist you in planning your weekend. Specific information about events and activities related to Commencement will be posted as it becomes available. Please note that times and events noted on this tentative schedule are subject to change.
Seniors may invite as many guests as they wish to attend Commencement.
Thursday, May 18
Friday, May 19
|Morning||Commencement and Ivy Day rehearsal for seniors, Junior Ushers, Sophomore Push and candidates for advanced degrees; followed by class photograph|
Saturday, May 20
|Morning||The Ivy Day Awards Convocation begins with the alumnae parade and the senior procession|
|Noon||Box lunches are available for seniors and parents and guests who have purchased tickets|
|Afternoon||President's reception for seniors, alumnae, faculty, graduate students, parents and their guests|
|Evening||Commencement concert; theatre production; senior candle-lighting ceremony; illumination of the campus; music for singing and dancing, including the traditional Sophomore Push/senior step sing on the Neilson Library steps|
Sunday, May 21
|9:15 a.m.||Seniors begin assembling for the Commencement procession|
|10 a.m.||Commencement exercises followed by the diploma circle|
|12:30 p.m.||Lunch in campus dining locations|
Monday, May 22
|Noon||Campus residences close for seniors|
