Biography

Scott Edmands has been a chemistry lab instructor at Smith since 2009. Prior to joining Smith's chemistry department, Edmands worked at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, where he conducted research aimed at predicting relapse in bone marrow transplant patients. His doctoral research focused on understanding the molecular pathways involved in the initiation anesthetic preconditioning, a cellular phenomenon where pre-exposure to an inhaled anesthetic can provide protection against a subsequent ischemic event. Currently, Edmands' professional interests focus on developing research-type experiences within teaching labs and developing scientific literacy and communication skills with his students.
