A New Approach to News
News of Note
Published January 29, 2016
Soon all the news fit for Smith will come to you in one simple email message.
On Wednesday, Feb. 3, all Smith students, faculty and staff will begin receiving a weekly e-newsletter, Notes from Paradise. Compiled and edited by the Office of College Relations, the newsletter will feature Smith media mentions currently found in NewsTracker—which will cease to exist as a freestanding publication—as well as key campus news, alumnae stories and videos. Alumnae have been receiving Notes from Paradise for a number of years.
The decision to merge NewsTracker and Notes into one comprehensive news source grew out of recent research, gleaned from alumnae surveys and email analytics, that indicated confusion around the purpose and intent of various college email newsletters.
“We wanted to create a single email ‘push’ that would showcase the most important college and alumnae news in an easily accessible, compelling way,” said Sam Masinter, associate vice president of college relations. “With this one robust news source, we’re ensuring that the entire Smith community has access to the same information.”
Notes from Paradise features an energetic, easy-to-read design that encourages easy access to stories, videos and links to outside news stories.
Coinciding with the launch of Notes from Paradise is a new Web page featuring selected articles about Smith’s people and programs from off-campus news media. This new page will be active on February 3.
