Suicide in Japan, from the hara-kiri of the samurai to the kamikaze pilots of World War II, has long been a exotic topic that has both repulsed and fascinated Westerners. Indeed, many have used this as a lens through which to view and analyze all of Japanese culture. A new phenomena in Japan that has been heavily publicized are “internet suicide pacts.” This link provides some overview of the issues.
