Brotherhood of Faith

The Brotherhood of Faith (Dobokai Undo) was begun in the early 1960's as a movement directed squarely at what was often labeled the "feudal" organizational structure of the Otani branch. Attacking the notion of family membership as out of touch with both Shinran's experience of a personally transformative experience and a modern spirit of individualism, the Dobokai Undo proposed reform legislation which paved the way for individual participation in and support of the religious order.
