Duo makes your single sign-on more secure by providing a "second factor" of authentication in addition to your password. Even if someone manages to get your password, they won't be able to access your account because they don't have the second factor. The second factor can be a code you enter; a notice you acknowledge on your smartphone; a phone call you answer on a pre-registered number (such as your mobile phone, home phone or office phone); or a small USB device that the you tap.
