Recommended browsers for Smith web applications

Getting a new Smith computer or upgrading to Windows 7?  Steps you need to take

Google Calendar users: To add the Smith academic calendar to your own Google calendar, just open Google Calendar, locate the Add a coworker's calendar field under Other Calendars, and enter: academiccalendar
Windows users: Due to significant security risks, any computer running Windows XP is now being blocked from the Smith network. more

Mac OS X and iOS users: Apple has released security updates for iOS (7.0.6) and OS X (10.9.2) that should be installed as soon as possible.
Password changes: Your current network password will continue to work indefinitely, but if you reset it, your new password must be at least 14 characters long. more

Mac users: Apple is offering an optional free upgrade to OS X 10.9, also known as Mavericks. If your college-owned Mac is currently running any operating system below OS X 10.8.5, please do not install Mavericks at this time. If you decide to upgrade your personal Mac, be sure to back up your system before proceeding.

Wireless network options: Note that you can set any Smith wireless network as your default on campus. instructions

  • SmithSecure provides a secure encrypted connection and is the recommended choice for all Smith students, faculty, and staff. Enter the shared password sophiasmith to log in. more

  • SmithGuest offers temporary Internet access to campus guests, who must enter their email address. more

  • Eduroam is a secure wireless network that allows registered users to connect to the Internet wirelessly at participating institutions worldwide. more
Microsoft Security Essentials is now Smith's recommended tool for protection against viruses and malware. more

Always use the Smith Portal to access BannerWeb. Log in to portal.smith.edu with your network username and password, then:

  1. Students: Click on the My Student Info tab.
    Staff: Click on the My Info tab.
    Faculty: Click on the My Info or Teaching & Advising tab.

  2. Click on any task of interest (Registration, Class Lists, Timesheet Entry, Leave Report Entry, etc.) to go directly to that task in BannerWeb.
FREE Lynda.com online courses are now available to the entire Smith community. To explore your options, log on to the Smith Portal and click the Lynda.com link on the General Info tab, or try the new Lynda.com app for Apple mobile devices.
Graduated students: Click here for information about what happens to all your Smith accounts after you graduate.
Cloud storage makes it easy to save, access, and share all your files on the web. Of the numerous cloud-storage services available, Smith is supporting Google Drive and Box. To learn more about your cloud-storage options, click here. To learn how to use your free Smith 25G Box account, click here.
