Leaving Smith? Don't Forget Your Passport

The Passport program provides tips for post-Smith life. View the schedule.

For some Smith students, it is now, officially, the home stretch, and life beyond Smith is on the horizon. For others, graduation is years away, but a summer or semester-long foray away from the Smith bubble may loom near.

For first-years, sophomores, juniors and seniors planning to emigrate off campus into a world of internships and careers, paying rent and cooking for yourself—remember your passport.

All students this week received a “Passport to Life After Smith,” a brochure of workshops and tip sessions on how to manage life’s next steps. The program is a collaboration among the Center for Work and Life, the Career Development Office , the Wellness Office, and Women and Financial Independence.

The idea for a post-Smith passport originated when students advising the Center for Work and Life suggested that they would benefit from on-campus workshops about “real life skills,” like fixing dinner or repairing the car, explained Jess Bacal, acting director of the center.

Nearly all the sessions are open to all students. Regardless of what year you are in at Smith—first-year, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate—or what type of off-campus adventure you’re preparing for, browse through the Passport schedule and find the sessions that will interest you.
