Haikus for International Women's Day

Friends of Smith Facebook—nearly 6,000 of them—were asked to compose a haiku about International Women’s Day, a worldwide celebration of women (held on Monday, March 8, in the United States). Several Smith students and alumnae responded. Here is a sample of their creativity.

Stephanie Greenlaw ’13

The whole world over
Our voices raised in shouting
Hope someone’s listening

Amalita Grimes AC

Eyes deep in the sand
We would give a helping hand
Were this girl a man

Lauren Armstrong ’05

Women together
A life across history
Many united

KayeAnn Lockett Mason ’83

Women of color
Celebrating each other
On this special day

Amy Washington Tayloe

We have come so far
International and home
Miles yet to go

Andrea Pacheco ’02

Ev’ryday women
Move climb jump over mountains
All these days are ours

Jessica Backus

Be still, listen now
Truth empowers from within
Knowledge, peace are yours
