Dulcet Dance: A Choreography Showcase

The Department of Dance will present Dulcet Dance, a free choreography showcase of four subtle, honeyed, poetic pieces perfect for a warm spring night on Thursday and Friday, April 23-24, at 8 p.m. in Scott (Gymnasium) Dance Studio.

Dance majors Natanya Apfelbaum ’09, Carly Smith ’11 (who was recently offered admission to the highly selective Alonso King’s Lines summer dance intensive in California), and MFA candidate Jillian Grunnah, a teaching fellow in dance, will present their original works in the concert. The final selection of the program is the anticipated new work by Smith graduate alumna Candice Salyers titled “Whispers from a Future Me,” an exploration of non-linear time in the development of self. Donna Mejia, guest-artist-in-residence at Smith, is the artistic director for the showcase.

Seating is limited; reserve seats by calling the box office at 413-585-ARTS. This event replaces the Spring Dance Concert.

Candice Salyers
Salyers received a BLS in Interdisciplinary Arts from the University of Memphis, an MFA in Dance from Smith College, and is pursuing a doctorate from Texas Woman’s University. She has enjoyed working with a variety of choreographers, including Victoria Marks, Li Chiao-Ping and Rodger Blum. Her interest in connecting dance to a larger community led her to found pARTners, a volunteer organization of artists dedicated to sharing their art form with a variety of people, for which she won the Alma Bucovaz Award for Urban Service in 2001. Her solo performance work has most recently been presented by New England Foundation for the Arts and Bates Dance Festival.
