Smith Basketball Defeats Albany College of Pharmacy in Tyler Tip-Off
The Pioneers opened their 2009 season with a 60-39 defeat of Albany College of Pharmacy in the Tyler Tip-Off game this afternoon in Ainsworth Gym. First years Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, NY) and Daron Dean (Brush Prairie, WA) each scored twelve points in their collegiate debuts to lead Smith.

The Huskies of Northeastern University swept the first five matches today to take a 5-4 victory back to Boston. With the loss, Smith fell to 1-1 on the season.

Swimming & Diving Drops Close Meet to Eastern Connecticut
The Pioneers dropped an exciting and close meet today at Eastern Connecticut State University, 136-126. Junior Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) led Smith winning three events while first years Michelle Mai (Paris, France) and Emma Reim (Ledyard, CT) each won two events.

Senior Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) has earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball All Conference honors for the third consecutive year while Brianne Connizzo (Demarest, NJ) and Bethany Weiss (Windham, NH) were named to the NEWMAC Academic All Conference team.

Sophomore Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) was named to the New England Women's and Men's All Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey All Conference Team while Mary Kate Long (Harrisville, NH), Natalie Wickles (Hatfield, MA) and Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY) all received NEWMAC Academic All Conference recognition.
