Etta Grover-Silva
Track & Field

Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) had a 2nd place finish in the pole vault this past weekend with a leap of 12 feet and 1 inch and earned All New England honors at the New England Division III Track & Field Championships. She was Smith’s highest finisher for the day and is currently tied for 14th in the nation.

Moshier Named Interim Softball Coach at Smith College
Director of Athletics, Lynn Oberbillig, announced today that Victoria L. Moshier has been appointed interim softball coach at Smith College. "Tori's experience as a pitcher and pitching coach along with her recruiting contacts in the Northeast allow her to "hit the ground running", stated Oberbillig. Moshier will replace former head coach Julie Perrelli and will assume her duties on July 1.

Eliza van Lennep Named All American
Senior Eliza van Lennep (Rindge, NH) has been named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)Pocock All American for the 2009 season. This award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions.

Smith Crew Finishes 6th at NCAA Rowing Championship
The Smith I (6:47.12) finished in seventh place today out of sixteen eight's at the 2009 NCAA Rowing Championships held in Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. This appearance mark's Smith's fifth trip to the National Championship in the past eight years. Williams College defended its championship title and won the grand final in 6:28.04.

Grover-Silva Earns All American Honors
Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) earned All American honors today with her 8th place finish in the pole vault (12'2.5" - 3.72m) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. The event was won by Rachel Secrest of North Central College with a height of 13'2.25" -4.02m.

Eight track & field athletes competed at the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Springfield College and finished 14th place out of 55 institutions.

Smith Crew Selected to NCAA Division III Rowing Championship
The Smith Pioneers have been selected to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division III Rowing Championship to be held May 29-30 at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. This appearance at Nationals will be Smith's fifth in the past eight years. The Pioneers finished fourth in 2006, second in both 2004 and 2005 and sixth in 2002.

The Pioneers finished 29th out 36 Division I, II and III schools today at the Open New England Outdoor Track & Field Championship held yesterday and today at the University of Massachusetts.

Smith Crew Performs Well at New England Championship
The Pioneers had a good day at the New England Championships held today on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts with three boats contending in the grand finals and two boats in the petite finals. With 24 crews racing, Smith finished sixth with 57 points behind Williams (108), the College of Holy Cross (72), Bates (72), Trinity (59) and the University of Vermont (58) for the women's overall points trophy.
