Kennedy Lecture: Chronology of Spanish Art Continues

Rosemarie Mulcahy, this year’s Ruth and Clarence Kennedy Professor in Renaissance Studies, will continue a series of three spring lectures, on Tuesday, March 10, with a talk titled “Images of Power & Salvation: Art at the Court of Philip III of Spain.”

The lecture will take place at 5 p.m. in Graham Hall, Hillyer.

Mulcahy has written and lecture widely on Spanish art. Her book Philip II of Spain, Patron of the Arts, also the subject of her first Kennedy lecture,was published in spring 2004. Her book El Greco to Velázquez: Art During the Reign of Philip III, was published last year. Also, Mulcahy compiled the catalogue of Spanish Paintings in the National Gallery of Ireland.

Mulcahy will conclude the series on April 17 with a lecture on “Sacred Realism: Polychromed Sculpture in 17th Century Spain.”

From 1997 to 2003, Mulcahy was Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Department of the History of Art at University College, where she taught seminars on Spanish art. In 2001 she was awarded La Cruz de Oficial de la Orden de Isabel la Católica for her contribution to the history of Spanish art.
