Spring Dance Concert Features Variety of Styles

This year’s annual Spring Dance Concert, under the direction of guest artist-in-residence Donna Mejia, will feature premieres of original works by five undergraduate choreographers: Meleta Buckstaff ’09, Cyndal Ellis AC, Katie Green ’09, Julia Hudson ’08, and Rita Iyer ’10.

The concert will take place Thursday through Saturday, April 3-5, at 8 p.m. in Hallie Flanagan Studio, Mendenhall Center.

Also featured is a new modern work by Ariel Gonzalez Cohen, MFA and lecturer in the Smith College Dance Department, and a ballet ensemble piece by guest artist and Smith alumna Megan Bonneau McCool. The program offers a diverse selection of dance and music styles and genres, including modern, ballet, tribal fusion, and Bharatanatyam, a traditional, 5,000 year-old South Asian art form.

Tickets ($9, general admission; $5, students/seniors) are available by calling 413-585-ARTS (2787) (seating is limited and the show typically sells out all tickets, so reserve early). For more information, consult www.smith.edu/smitharts.
