Circle Brings Girls Together
 On Monday, July 16, 16
middle school girls from Springfield’s
Chestnut Accelerated Middle School and Chicago’s Young
Women’s Leadership Charter School will take part in
a drum circle on campus.
The drum circle, which will be led by Ellen Clegg, a local
facilitator and percussionist, encourages group awareness,
synergy and empowerment through collective sound, rhythm
and motion.
The 16 girls will be on
the Smith campus as part of STEP UP (Summer Talent Exploration
Program – Unleashing
Potential), a week-long program in the Office of Educational
Outreach. The program brings the girls to campus for workshops
and activities that help them explore their talents and interests
while learning about college.
The STEP UP drum circle will take place from 7 to 8 p.m.
on the Quadrangle lawn near Morrow House.
