Use the tools below to find materials on a wide range of subjects beginning in 1861 to the present. Not all finding aids in the College Archives are available online. Please feel free to contact the College Archives staff for help!

Resource Description

Five College Finding Aids

Over 1000 finding aids to archival and manuscript collections in the Five Colleges. Provides in-depth information about a collection, and a box listing of the materials.
Smith History Digital Collections Provides digital images of early and important material relating to the history of Smith College.
Five College Library Catalog

Search by SUBJECT or KEYWORD. Records are brief, but many include links to more detailed finding aids.
Use Advanced search to limit format to "Archives & Manuscripts."

Research Guides Guides for various topics are available both online and in paper versions at the Smith College Archives Reading Room.
Smith History Links Smith College History and Traditions from the Office of College Relations.

In-House databases are available at the Smith College Archives for the following sets of information:

   Smith Alumnae Quarterly memorials—for alumnae and faculty members.
   Alumnae Biographical Files, Classes 1879-present
   Faculty Biographical Files A-Z
   College Archives Photographs (limited)
   Audiovisual Collection (limited)

COLLECTIONS LIST

The records of Smith College are organized in a way that reflects its hierarchy over time. The Smith College Archives Collections List provides an easy way to see how the records are organized. When you do research in the College Archives you may have to think about what office, department, or grouping of records may best help answer your questions. The lists are currently available only in hardcopy at the Smith College Archives Reading Room in Alumnae Gymnasium.

CARD CATALOG

When it was a smaller collection, archivists provided item-level subject access to the College Archives. The card catalog that was produced is available for use in the Reading Room. The card catalog ceased to be added to in the mid-1970s. This catalog is arranged by subject and points to specific items, photographs or files found in the Archives collections.
