Singapore, May 31–June 2

Smith Women Leading Change: Asia 2012
Through panels, discussions, and lectures on women’s role in public policy, the arts, education, and government, Smith President Carol T. Christ, distinguished faculty, and alumnae will celebrate the far-reaching power of a Smith education. Featured guests: Judith Fergin ’73, U.S. Ambassador to East Timor; Carol A. Rodley ’76, former U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, now dean of the School of Leadership and Management at the Foreign Services Institute; Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy ’02, Academy Award-winning filmmaker; and Kishore Mahbubani, dean and professor in the practice of public policy, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

Malaysia, June 3–5

President Christ will meet with representatives of the Asian Women’s Leadership University, for which Smith is serving as the academic planning partner. Meetings will include tours of prospective campus sites.

Hong Kong, June 5–8

In addition to meetings with alumnae, parents, and current and prospective students, President Christ will address the Foreign Correspondents Club on the topic of women’s leadership in politics and public service.

Nanjing, June 8–12

Women’s Education Worldwide: Gender Issues in Higher Education
Founded by Smith and Mount Holyoke colleges, Women’s Education Worldwide brings together leaders of women’s colleges around the world. At the 2012 conference, President Christ, as part of a panel of Seven Sisters presidents, will discuss the recent launch of the Women in Public Service Project, an alliance of leading women’s colleges and the U.S. State Department to double the number of women in public service worldwide by 2050. The 2012 WEW conference will take place on the campus of Ginling College, a women’s college actively supported by Smith and its alumnae in the first half of the 20th century.

President Christ will be a featured speaker at this annual gathering of Seven Sisters students, alumnae and prospective students.

Chengdu, June 17–19

President Christ will meet with alumnae, parents, current and prospective students, and other friends of the college.

Beijing, June 19–22

President Christ will meet with alumnae, parents, current and prospective students, and other friends of the college. In addition, she will conduct an interview with CCTV, the leading state television network for mainland China, with some 1.2 billion viewers.
